I just couldn't resist showing you this adorable photo of Adhee's son sitting at the beautiful new kitchen island we created. I actually ran into Adhee at a New Year's Day party and she told me that the new island has made the biggest difference in how she uses her kitchen. She also told me that her New Year's Resolution for this year is to redo all of the other cabinets in her kitchen!

I promise I will forward along pictures as soon as she sends them to me!

Here's the email we got from Jen a few weeks after we left her house:

I've used the desk for a couple of days (didn’t use it immediately to give the room time to air out from the painting). I now have 2 friends staying in there – they love it – especially the upholstered panels. They had me explain how it was done. J And…tonight I replaced the doorknob in my bedroom and master bathroom! The hardest part is *definitely* removing the old doorknob! I was so proud of myself – and my visiting friends said “is this the point of Be Jane – so you can do this stuff on your own now?” And, I said “exactly, so give me the screwdriver and back away from my doorknob. I wanna do it!”

December's Jane in Training-Jen

If you haven't had a chance to take a look at this month's videos yet you really need to. Working with Jen was such a pleasure! She is a single woman who bought her home just a few weeks after her father passed away. As she tells it, she felt completely stuck knowing that he wouldn't be there to help her fix it up. When we got there, we could tell how this had affected her.

Her office/guest room was not the kind of place she wanted to go to work in every day, nor the kind of place she wanted to show off to guests. So with a few changes (like putting her desk in her closet, painting her walls pewter then upholstering them, and building a pretty little closet for her guests clothes), she now loves going to work each morning and is excited to have her first guests for the holidays at, as she likes to now call it...Hotel Jen.

55 Sorority Girls, 2 rooms and 15 hours...

This past April, Eden and I went to Iowa State to help the girls of Gamma Phi Beta change over their library and meeting room in less than 15 hours. The final results just came out in the Better Homes and Gardens Do-It-Yourself magazine. The girls had a blast (each one got a pink toolbelt and a drill from Ryobi), learning how to use power tools and change their own home. Amy's in love (with her pergola)!

For those of you that have watched this month's video on our working with Amy to make her backyard look like Bali, I have a bit of updating on her. Amy, we are proud to say, has spent every waking moment outside by the pool ever since we left. Just last week she invited all of her girlfriends over for dinner and drinks and to watch the videos of her changing her backyard into an oasis.

She's said how amazing of a life change it is to have a place in her home that she loves living in.

Next Jane In Training...

Sorry I haven't been able to keep in touch sooner but we just finished working on our next Jane In Training's home for October. It was a lot of work but I, in my humble opinion, I honestly think her family room turned out amazing! She turned to us because she is separated from her husband, soon to be divorced, with two young boys of her own and a home that really needed some much needed TLC that she didn't know how to give.

I can honestly say that between Eden, Jeryl and myself we worked our butts off! We removed her old stained yucky carpet, put in new flooring, added molding around doors and on base boards, updated her very flat white built in television cabinet as well as put in new fans, not to mention a great pop of color with some very fun paint to create a very fun country look. I'm still exhausted and need to get to bed and it's already past midnight!

Extending your summer

If you've gotten a chance to take a look at the second set of videos you will get to meet our second Jane In Training, Amy. We had such a great time working with her! She was very funny especially when we tried to pry the chipping hammer out of her hands. We are so proud of all that she did while we were there and have heard great things about what she is looking to do now that she knows she can do it herself

Bless her heart, we got a frantic phone call from her just a few days after we finished telling us how she accidentally ended up getting wax on her beautiful, newly redone teak table. The best news of all was that she was able to take care of it for herself before we were even able to get back to her on it.

Lana's House

This month’s Jane, Lana, was afraid to take on the projects we did, and it was so neat to watch her change as we worked together. Each project really complemented the other, and my favorite was the concrete staining. While it did take more time than we expected (nothing new about that), it really made a wonderful impact on the overall look of the whole home. The best part of all was the fact that Lana loved the way it turned out! I actually just got off of the phone with her and she said she still loves it as much as she did the day we did it.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, we helped Lana put in the pathway lights and I was totally amazed how it really made the driveway stand out even more. Though we probably should have placed them a bit further from the driveway as she recently ran into one of them with her car. DOH!
